“Rock-A-Bye Baby” by Daniel Carter
Rock-a-bye Baby is a traditional lullaby from the UK. The imagery of a cradle in the tree-top being rocked by the wind is both comforting and alarmingly dangerous. Nonetheless, mother is there to comfort the child and keep safe from all danger. Paralleling danger against safety is a bold and strong contrast that reinforces the depth of love a mother has for a child and should be expressed vividly with dynamic contrasts and word-painting.
